Before starting you should know that there are two Java Packages, most users will choose OpenJDK, but there is the possibility to choose also Oracle Java. We will show you how to install each one just copy the correct commands in Terminal, so from your Linux, open terminal and do the following commands for OpenJDK or Oracle Java:

Commands for OpenJDK:

$ sudo apt-get install openjdk-7-jre icedtea-7-plugin

For Oracle Java:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install oracle-java7-installer

To open Oracle Java Control Panel type in terminal following: 

javaws -viewer
