Windows 10 just like other versions is not ideal. Sometimes when you get Windows Updates you can have the download getting stuck, update refusing to install, or just getting some continuous restarts.

1. Windows Update Troubleshooter
The first thing, we would recommend to start with the Windows Update Troubleshooter. it will try to detect automatically the problem and resolve it. If there is a small issue it could help you.
You will have to search in Start menu for troubleshooting and select the relevant result. A Control Panel window will open from where you will have to select System and Security, then select Fix problems with Windows Update.
Click the Advanced link and the Run as administrator, the click Next. The process will start, if it will detect some issues it will repair them and restart the PC. If there are no issues detected and you still cannot do Windows Update please proceed to the next step.
2. Clear Updates Download Folder
Sometimes the problem can be the temporary update files which are downloaded to be installed. You can remove them and Windows Update will download some fresh new and will try to install them.
To do it press Windows key + R and in search input write: C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download and press enter. This will open a folder with Windows Update files.
After removing all the files from the folder, restart your computer and try to run Windows Updates again. If it works we are glad for you, if not proceed to the next step.
3. Disable Your Anti-virus
Sometimes Anti-Virus can be a real issue for your computer. Different antiviruses react different. Some have the setting to not to allow Windows Updates, or they even can do updates for you.
What you have to do is find your Anti Virus program, usually it is on the task bar near the clock. Open it and find the option to Disable your antivirus, and try again Windows Update.
4. Disconnect Drives and Disable VPN
Still no luck? Well, you can try to disconnect your media devices, like external drives, DVDs, card readers.
If you get specific errors like: 0x80200056 or 0x800F0922, then you might check your internet connection for interruptions.
Also you might need to disconnect your VPN connections. Then try to Update your computer once more. Do a restart and try again. If no luck proceed to the fifth step.
5. Use the Media Creation Tool
If Windows Update still doesn’t work for you. You can try to update it by using Media Creation Tool. The tool will create an installation file for Windows 10 which is used to upgrade your PC.
The tool will not erase anything from your computer, it will just force an upgrade. All settings will be in place and there are no risks.
You will have to go to Windows 10 page and click the Download tool now button. Then start the tool and Accept the license terms. Select Upgrade this PC now and click Next.
By default all your files and settings will be kept. But you can click Change what to keep if you want to be sure. When you are ready, click Install.
After finishing your Windows 10 system will restart, and you will be using the latest version of Windows 10 with all personal data, features and updates installed.
