If you are a Windows XP user, you probably know that Microsoft ended Windows XP support last April. But not everyone knows that with a simple trick you can still get Windows XP updates. Windows XP will still receive updates because Microsoft still offers updates for Windows Embedded PoSReady 2009, which almost the same Windows XP, it is based on the XP kernel.

What we can do to receive updates is that we can trick Windows Update to make it to think that we are running Windows Embedded PoSReady 2009 and continue to receive updates which are the same for Windows XP.

How to do it ?

To continue getting updates on Windows XP we will have to create a registry key called “HKLM\SYSTEM\WPA\PosReady” and also to create a Dword called “Installed” with the value set to 1.

Step 1. Open notepad and paste the following:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\PosReady]

“Installed”=dword:00000001

Step 2. Save the notepad by writing a random name and adding at the end .reg

Step 3. Run the file.reg you created, the values will be automatically added to registry.

After finishing, restart your system. You will start to get Windows XP updates. Remember, this is an unofficial hack so you must think twice before doing it. Also note that this trick works only for 32-bit versions of Windows XP.
