chrome class not registered

Many users are troubleshooting Chrome.exe Class not registered error. This error appear on Windows 7, Windows 8, 8.1 and on Windows 10. Basically it appears for no reason at the moment when you want to start your Chrome browser. You click on Chrome to start and it will not open, but instead it will give you a message that shows you the Chrome shortcut address and a message: Class not registered. See the screenshot bellow.

Google has received complains about this problem and currently it should be in process for resolving it. Till then you can easy fix the problem from your computer’s Registry Editor.

What you have to do is to delete the DelegateExecute registry keys from the following locations in Registry Editor:

  • HKLM\Software\Classes\Chrome
  • HKLM\Software\Classes\ChromeHTML\open\command\
  • HKLM\Software\Classes\Chrome\shell\opennewwindow\command
  • HKLM\Software\Classes\Chrome\shell\open\command

So, you delete the registry keys that enable DelegateExecute, these key are the problem because they disable Chrome’s AppID.

After deleting it, you don’t have to restart your computer, just start again Chrome browser.

Automatic Fix Class not registered in Chrome

If you do not really know what is Registry Editor and how it works. You can fix it automatically by downloading the following file:

Right click on the link bellow and select “Save link as…

Downlaod Easy Chrome Fix

Then run the file wherever you have the error message Chrome.exe Class not registered, and select yes to continue. This file will fix the problem by automatically removing DelegateExecute keys from Registry Editor.

Also you should keep the file on your computer, until you are sure that Chrome will no more give this error again, because Chrome updates itself again and these key can be recreated and you get again the error message when starting Chrome browser.

  1. w10 CHROME class not registered:
    From the start menu: SETTINGS… SYSTEM… DEFAULT APPS …. and at the bottom, set defaults by APPS. Select Chrome on the left then at the bottom say “set this program as default”

    Microsoft will not let you fully set chrome at the two higher steps. SHAME ON YOU MICROSOFT!
